Biohacking or DIY biology is a broad term that includes a lot of aspects — ranging from conducting experiments on your own body to experimenting with other organisms in a laboratory. You want to get stem cells injected in your joints or get a younger person’s blood injected to increase your longevity — biohacking covers it all.

What exactly is biohacking?

The definition of biohacking varies a lot with the pursuit you have in mind. When we talk of biohacking on The Content Genie, we will mostly talk about hacks that help you reach full potential in terms of your mind, body, and brain without using traditional medicines.

For instance, Jack Dorsey does two hours of Vipassana meditation a day and only eats one meal on weekdays; no meal at all on weekends. He kickstarts his morning with an ice bath before taking the 5-mile walk to the Twitter HQ.

Biohackers also love to keep track of every little mechanism of this physical machine of theirs. Thus, they are also prompted to buy wearables which help them keep track of these. The basic logic is to have more data on your body which will help it optimize it better.

As mentioned earlier, there are a variety of biohackers. One such subset is called grinders. They go the extra mile to experiment with implanting devices in their bodies like computer chips. Sounds painful? For some grinders, it is absolutely convenient as they can go for surfing or a walk without having to carry keys. Why? The computer chip helps them control the electric locks in their doors.

Why would somebody biohack themselves?

The extent to which a Biohacker would go is insane, right? It is what also of us want to do always — feel better and push our bodies to its limit to see what is the extreme our body can withstand. A variety of goals drive these ambitions. Some people want to never fall sick, some want to become as strong as possible while others want to simply be as smart as it can be for as long as possible. In other words, the longevity of life is all that they desire.

There is another facade to this, though. What simply starts as a mere wish to free oneself from pain forever, transforms into beating the average person to perform better, decrease the effects of aging and a lot of such wishful ideas come into being. In the US, it can take somewhere around 10 years for a new drug to actually come into the market. For somebody already in pain because of the absence of that drug, it can feel truly painful and cruel. That is why biohackers are born. Experimenting with one’s body rather than awaiting a lab to release a drug is a more feasible option for most of us.

Did you just get into biohacking and feel left out? Worry not, there are a dozen of online conferences happening this year, where you can just feel right at home. Also, the community encourages you to go out of your way and challenge the norm to experiment with your body.

The kind of biohacking that we will talk about will include a blend of the Indian traditional herbs along with modern science. Biohacking is proven scientifically to improve your performance. So, are you into biohack yourself?
