A few years ago nobody was talking about biohacking and then Twitter’s Jack Dorsey admitted that he went for days without eating as a way to ‘biohack’ his way to a more productive life. That is when it all started and people around the world went on to alter their DNA as a result of biohacking.

Biohacking is a way to alter our DNA while earlier it used to be the tasks limited to labs and scientists, it has become more accessible thanks to the technology and the internet. We can now use food, exercise, supplements and technology to fastrack our way to a healthier lifestyle and increase the longevity of the same too.

We can track our gut health, blood pressure, sleep quality, etc, and now technology is being used to biohack our periods too.

The author of the InTheFlo, Alisa Vitti, seems to have reversed polycystic ovarian syndrome through bio hacking after spending thousands of dollars on a variety of products. She is a firm believer of the fact that biohacking can help you manage heavy periods, bloating, cramps, severe PMS, missing periods and migraines. The main aim is to biohack your unique female physiology — your hormones.

Biohacking is not a universal set of rules that everybody needs to follow. It highly varies from gender to gender and age to age. For men, their bodies remain the same every single day. Thus, they can implement the same rules and stick to a strict biohacking routine but it is not the same for women.

‘In the case of men, they are trying to maximize energy, concentration, and stamina during their very short 24-hour circadian hormonal pattern. For women, you are already maximally efficient by design, so you simply need to nurture your cyclical patterns and endocrine system’s nutritional needs, and you will feel the benefits quickly,’ she explained on her website

Here is a list of some rules which she shared in her book:

#1: Change what you eat every week

The 28-day cycle which we undergo between subsequent bleeding pump in different levels of various hormones. Thus, we need to change our meals according to our body requirements each week.

#2 : Switching your workout intensity and type each week

You can turn on fat storage and muscle wasting if you do the same type of HIIT workout every day. Even though HIIT is the ultimate biohacking workout but it is only good for men. For women, we should opt for HIIT workouts in the start of the cycle and less intense workouts in the later stage.

#3: Detox your body the Right Way

If you are suffering from hormonal or period problems it might sound soothing to go through a heavy detox but heavy detoxes backfire for most women. The right kind of detox, i.e, to get the excess estrogen out of your body (which is responsible for most problems) is necessary.

#4: Using the power of Intermittent Fasting correctly

Most studies for intermittent fasting are done on men and not women. In fact, few studies have shown that the ability to tolerate glucose got worse for women during intermittent fasting. Other research shows that fasting can have a negative effect on cortisol, insulin, estrogen, and progesterone — all the major hormonal players in your body! It can even shrink your ovaries!

#5: Ditch the Coffee Cup

From what we have been told at our homes, coffee has innumerable benefits but it can be homicidal for our hormones. It is a strict no-go for women in their reproductive years who want to optimize their body and productivity.

Around fifty percent of the population has a mutation in the gene CYP1A2 which prevents caffeine from being broken down for hours in our body. Caffeine can increase the risks of breast cancer and develops more cysts.

These are only some of the ways in which you can improve your reproductive health and hence your productivity. We are redefining biohacking for women because it is as important as the air we breathe.
